RISE: Restore Inner Beauty & Self Love Effectively

RISE (Restore Inner beauty & Self-love Effectively) is a nonprofit organization committed to uplifting young girls in Southeast Texas by helping them cultivate deep, lasting self-love and embrace their inner beauty with confidence and purpose.

Rooted in empowerment, RISE creates meaningful, community-based support through mentorship, wellness-centered events, creative expression, and safe spaces for girls to be seen, heard, and celebrated. Our mission is to nurture emotional well-being, encourage self-discovery, and equip the next generation of young women with the tools they need to thrive, both inside and out.

RISE believes that when a girl knows her worth, she can rise above anything.

Celebrating Community, One Storytime at a Time

Tia’s Tales is a grassroots literacy initiative led by Tia Johnson, hosted once a month in libraries throughout Southeast Texas. Each event brings families together in a safe, welcoming space to celebrate the joy of reading through engaging story times and hands on arts and crafts.

More than just a reading program, Tia’s Tales is about building community. It sparks imagination, supports local libraries, and helps strengthen family connections. Recognized by the Texas Library Association newsletter, Tia’s Tales continues to inspire a love of literacy and creativity in every child it reaches.

Tia Johnson is an award-winning Daybreak and Midday anchor at 12News in Beaumont, Texas. Since joining the 12News team in October 2023, Johnson has been nominated for two awards from the Press Club of Southeast Texas. She also launched Tia’s Tales, a grassroots literacy initiative held once a month in local libraries.

A true Texan, Johnson was born and raised in Houston and is a proud graduate of Prairie View A&M University. She began her journalism career in Lufkin at KTRE before venturing beyond the Lone Star State to WBAY in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association honored her with a 2nd place award for “Online Personality.” She then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, serving as a reporter and fill-in anchor at FOX4 WDAF, covering impactful stories including an in-depth investigation into unsafe apartments that drew attention from city leaders and a congressman.

Johnson is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and the Junior League of Beaumont. She actively volunteers in schools throughout Beaumont and Port Arthur, embracing opportunities to promote diversity and inclusion in journalism while mentoring young journalists, kids, and teens.

Outside the newsroom, she enjoys reading, exploring new restaurants, spending time with family, and giving back to the community.
